The Tour de Fleece Ends…

Published by admin under Spinning Yarn

As you may recall, my goal for the Tour de Fleece was to spin about 1 1/2 pounds of fiber, enough to knit myself as sweater. Now that the Tour is over, I thought I’d show you how much I actually got done:
Handspun Yarn - Navajo PliedThat’s right, only 4 skeins of finished yarn, amounting to only about 300 yards. Sigh. Not nearly enough for a sweater.

The good news is though that I did manage to spin every day of the Tour - from July 5 through today, which was a fairly major accomplishment for me, since I generally only spin a couple of times a week. So, although I didn’t meet my goal, I did get a lot more done than I otherwise would have.

In addition to what you see above, I’ve also spun about 2 3/4 bobbins of singles. I plan to finish up the one that’s 3/4 full tonight, and perhaps Navajo ply at least one of the finished bobbins.

Roving blend
I still have quite a bit of fiber left. I’ve carded a few more batts and pulled them into roving so they’ll be ready to spin in the coming days. I also have quite a bit of fiber I have yet to card. Eventually I will have enough for that sweater - maybe just in time for the fall knitting season.

Tour de Fleece Progress Update

Published by admin under Spinning Yarn

As I mentioned in my last post, I signed up for the Tour de Fleece, a three-week spinning challenge that coincides with the Tour de France. This is my progress through day 5:
Handspun from carded batts
As of yesterday, which was day 7, I’ve completed one more bobbin of singles. Today I’m planning to Navajo ply a couple of the bobbins I’ve finished and perhaps spin another bobbin of singles.

How’s your Tour de Fleece spinning going?
