I just finished this a couple of days ago, and I have to say that I’m quite pleased with the way it turned out. It’s the Aramis sweater from the Berroco pattern book Norah Gaughan Volume 2.
The pattern book classifies this pattern as ‘intermediate’ but I wouldn’t even say it’s that difficult. The trickiest part for me was making sure that the trim for the neckline, which is knit separately, was sewn on evenly without puckering.
What I really like about this pattern is the waist shaping, which makes the sweater fit a lot better and makes it much more flattering. Of course you could alter almost any sweater pattern to add waist shaping, but it’s nice to have the shaping incorporated into the pattern already so you don’t have to do the calculations yourself. Yes, I’m really that lazy. ;o)
I made a couple of alterations to this pattern:
- I knit the front and backs together in the round to the armscye so I could eliminate a lot of seaming (the bane of my existence).
- I casted on for the smallest size (30 inch bust), but after I finished the waist shaping, I increased enough to go up a couple of bust sizes (38 inch bust) to better customize the fit for me.
The pattern calls for Berroco Touche yarn, but I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece (80% cotton/20% wool) in the dusty eggplant colorway.
