Recently I needed a good, portable project to knit, but was kind of tired of doing my usual favorite – socks. So, I took the Ravelry pattern search for a spin and came up with the Green Cabled Armwarmers pattern by Elizabeth Martin (Ravelry link). In case you don’t use Ravelry, you can also download the free pattern here.
I think these are kind of a fun item. They are about elbow-length which makes them kind of dramatic, and also they’re nice if you’ve worn a short sleeved shirt to the office and it’s kind of chilly.
This isn’t a difficult knit, especially if you’ve done cables before. However, be warned – if you have a hard time visualizing how to reverse your cables and shaping, you might have a bit of trouble because the instructions for the right armwarmer basically just tell you to reverse the left armwarmer.
Anyway, I thought it was a very nice pattern for doing some portable knitting – easy enough that I didn’t have to concentrate too hard, but the cables added enough interest to keep me from being bored.
