Silk
Natural silk is the product of bombyx mori moths which are cultivated for their silk (bombyx silk or cultivated silk) or tussah moths, which are wild (tussah silk). Bombyx silk fibers are naturally white, while tussah silk is light gold or tan in color.
Silk fibers are smooth, soft, incredibly strong, and drape beautifully when spun and knitted into a garment. Silk is highly absorbent and is comfortable to wear in both warm and cold weather.

You’ll also find silk fiber for spinning at Paradise Fibers. The often carry tussah silk, bombyx silk, and recycled sari silk.
Silk that’s been prepared for spinning comes in many forms, including bricks, hankies/mawatas, tops, caps and roving. You’ll also be able to find unprocessed silk cocoons and hand dyed silk cocoons that you can prepare for spinning yourself or use for other types of crafts. Recycled sari silk – silk that has been recycled from women’s saris typically worn in India and other countries – is another popular product. Which you choose is solely a matter of what you like to work with and how much preparation you’re willing to do before spinning.
