Knitting Books

If you’re a knitter, you know that there is a seemingly endless supply of knitting books out now, since knitting seems to have experienced a huge resurgence in the past few years. Here are a few of my current favorites:

Just out this month is a new book from Lisa Lloyd: A Fine Fleece: Knitting with Handspun YarnsA Fine Fleece by Lisa Lloyd. This book delves into a topic that hasn’t received nearly enough coverage, at least in my opinion: what to knit with your handspun yarns. Although this book does have some very good information about spinning, because the highlight of the book are the beautiful patterns (each shown knit twice - once with handspun yarn and once with commercial yarn), I’ve classified it as a knitting book.

The patterns in this book have a classic yet modern feel to them, the patterns are well-written, and the pictures are beautiful. I think almost everyone would find a few patterns in this book that they’d love to knit.

Things I Learned From Knitting (Whether I Wanted To or Not) is the latest book from knitter and humorist Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. As always, Stephanie’s humor may be lost on non-knitters (muggles) but will have knitters rolling on the floor, laughing.

In The Knitter’s Book of Yarn: The Ultimate Guide to Choosing, Using, and Enjoying Yarn, Clara Parks brings the type of information found on her wonderful site, Knitter’s Review, to a book format. This book has tons of information about how yarns are made, fiber types, and what types of yarn work well with what types of stitch patterns. There are also patterns that highlight the best qualities of the yarn being discussed. This book would be a wonderful addition to the library of both beginning and more advanced knitters.
