Corriedale

Corriedale wool is a fine, well-crimped wool which is soft enough to be used for next to the skin projects. The staple length of Corriedale fiber is approximately 3 1/2 to 6 inches, with a micron count in the range of 25-33. Since Corriedale fiber is quite springy and elastic, once spun into yarn, you’ll want to use it for a project where fiber memory is more important than drape.

The most common natural color for Corriedale wool is white, although you’ll occasionally find natural black, brown and dark grey fiber as well.

Corriedale is a relatively easy fiber to spin due to its fairly long staple length. When spinning Corriedale, you’ll probably find that a worsted technique will give you the best results. Corriedale wool felts readily, so it can be used to good effect in your felting and fulling projects.
