Hand Dyed

Hand dyed wool is fun for crafters to work with because it normally has interesting variations that you probably won’t find in commercially dyed wool. Hand dyers use many techniques to get the look they want in their rovings or fleeces, including space dyeing, dip dyeing, immersion dyeing and handpainting. Some dyers like to use only natural, plant-based materials for dyeing; others use commercial dye preparations.

Most hand dyed fiber is prepared in small batches, and even if a dyer produces a similar batch later, it is unlikely to match a prior batch perfectly. So when you buy a hand dyed roving, you’ll want to be sure that you purchase enough for the project you have in mind.
