Rambouillet
Rambouillet sheep are considered to be a fine wool breed. Rambouillet fleece is very soft (18 – 24 microns) with a strong crimp and good elasticity. The staple length is relatively short, from about 2-4 inches. According to Wikipedia, Rambouillet sheep are also known as Rambouillet Merino or French Merino, having been breed in France from Spanish Merino sheep.
You’ll often find auctions on eBay for Rambioullet roving and fleeces, and also for wool from Rambioullet sheep that have been cross-bred with other sheep breeds. If there are any current auctions, you’ll see them listed below. Click a link or picture to get more information and to place your bid.

Rambioullet wool can be used for both spinning and felting, and is soft enough to be used in garments that will be worn next to the skin. However, if you are buying a Rambioullet fleece or prepared Rambouillet fiber for spinning, you’ll want to check with the seller before buying to make sure the staple length is on the longer side of the 2-4 inch range, preferably at least 3 inches, to make it easier to spin.
